Susan Sarandon Bio

It was after the 1968 Democratic convention, and there was a casting call for a film that had several roles for young people who had disrupted the convention. Two recent graduates of Catholic University in Washington DC attended the audition in New York for Joe (1970). Chris Sarandon was not selected in spite of having prior studies in acting. Susan, his wife Susan was given the coveted role in the movie as Susan Compton and is the child of Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). In the movie Dad Bill kills Susan's drug dealer boyfriend and next befriends Joe (Peter Boyle)who is an outspoken scumbag who works on an assembly line and who collects guns.Five years after, Sarandon made the film that fans of the cult classics have come to recognize her character Janet who becomes involved with transvestite Dr. Frank n Furter in The The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). Sarandon was a fierce advocate for Annie in Bull Durham (1988) more than 15 year after her debut. She was able to fly on her own from Rome and Italy to Los Angeles. "It was an incredible script... It was able to do dispel a lot of legends, and challenged American definition of success," she stated. "I went to the studio with Kevin Costner, sex some males in the studio and then I got back on a plane. Tim Robbins, her Bull Durham (1988) actor, a supporting actor, was her first love. He was father to two boys by 1992. This left Sarandon in a awkward spot. Sarandon would leave her home and take on roles that were truly challenging. This was the result of four Academy Award nominations in 1990s and the best actress award for Dead Man Walking (1995). Her first Academy Award nomination was for Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980).
